The Queensland Law Students Career Fair will be attracting more attention than usual this year, with several of the national firms bumping up their recruitment intake of Brisbane graduates, and smaller and non-legal firms competing for the students’ attention.

Firms such as Freehills and Clayton Utz have increased their intake of graduates over the last couple of years, while national firm Tresscox Lawyers will participate in the Fair for the first time. Accounting firms such as Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers are being wooed by student organisers as a way of giving students a diverse realm of choice. The attendees will be increasingly looking to see what else is on option to do with their degrees, said organisers.

Last year the Fair had 717 student attendees, and the student associations hope to significantly outdo that figure this year. “We have been putting a lot of effort into marketing this year,” said Cameron Green, vice president (education and activities) of Queensland University of Technology Association of Law Students, and one of the organisers.
