Rod Smith (pictured) runs boutique firm Evescourt Legal out of Sydney and Newcastle.

Before launching his own practice four years ago, he was a lawyer at Sparke Helmore and earlier the Crown Solicitor’s Office.

His expertise ranges from commercial and corporate work to intellectual property, media and entertainment law.

Outside the law, Mr Smith is an established artist and musician. He also sits on the boards of the Newcastle Historic Reserve Trust, the Newcastle Art Gallery Foundation and WEA Hunter.

Nexus Law Group’s founder and principal, Marcus McCarthy, said the Nexus model would support Mr Smith's varied interests.

In February Nexus appointed former Gadens senior associate Justin Sprogis as a consulting principal in Sydney.
