Ben Wu (pictured) has joined Kain Lawyers as a Sydney-based director, a strategic appointment the national law firm said will strengthen its national capability in complex property, infrastructure, and energy transactions.

Before joining the firm, Wu served as counsel at global law firm White & Case LLP, a position he held for more than four years.

With over five years as an accredited property law specialist, he offers deep expertise in advising on infrastructure, renewable energy, and major real estate developments.

In a statement, the national law firm shared that Wu’s career encompasses major commercial real estate deals, mixed-use developments, renewable energy initiatives, and complex property financings.

Wu has provided guidance to developers, state-owned entities, government authorities, financiers, and property investment funds across Australia and internationally.

Speaking on his move, Wu explained that Kain Lawyers’ expertise and strong reputation in managing complex transactions made it an obvious choice, particularly as the energy transition ushers in a new era of challenging, high-stakes deals.

“Kain Lawyers’ reputation for handling sophisticated transactions has been a key factor in my decision to join the firm,” Wu said.

“With the energy transition creating a new generation of complex deals, I’m excited to work with the team to help clients deliver these important projects.”

Michael Garry, managing director at Kain Lawyers, emphasised that Wu’s appointment comes at a critical juncture for Australia’s energy transition, noting that his expertise strengthens the firm’s ability to guide clients through these complexities and deliver major developments.

“Ben joins the firm at a pivotal time for Australia’s energy transition, where accelerating investment in renewable energy and infrastructure is making property and land-tenure issues increasingly critical,” Garry said.

“His specialist expertise in navigating these complexities strengthens our ability to support clients as they progress significant developments and manage increasingly sophisticated property requirements.”

This news follows the firm’s appointment of a former EY partner as a new energy transactions director in the middle of October and the addition of a new debt capital markets director at the end of September.
