Speaking about his appointment, Lipscombe said: “For 25 years I have acted predominantly for big banks. While they remain a super important part of the Australian debt capital market and there is a tremendous opportunity to bring my experience acting for them to the borrower, sponsor, developer and funds side of the table, it is the rise and rise of private credit and Kain Lawyers unique mid-market transactions focus in particular in private credit, private equity, real estate funds and public and private M&A that has drawn me to the firm.”

Kain Lawyers director and head of the debt capital markets team, Nick Slack, said: “At a time of significant growth in the Debt Capital Markets team, we look forward to welcoming Tim to our firm.”

This news follows the firm’s promotion of a director and five associates in June, its appointment of a former PwC leader to its board in May, its appointment of a new managing director in April, and its appointment of a new senior director in January.

The firm specialises in transactions and has expertise in private and public M&A, equity capital markets, debt capital markets, investment funds, property and real asset transactions, and capital structuring.

It advises founders and corporates, and private equity, venture capital, private credit, property, and real asset fund managers, in offices in Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide.

Slack noted: “He offers our clients deep experience obtained while working both in Australia and the UK. His corporate, leveraged and property finance expertise, coupled with his private credit experience, makes him the perfect fit.”

In a statement, the firm said he has advised both international and domestic clients in corporate and funds finance, leveraged and acquisition finance, and real estate, property, and construction finance.

Kain Lawyers managing director Michael Garry said: “We are delighted to welcome Tim to the Kain Lawyers’ team.

“Tim’s diverse finance experience and dedication to client service strengthens our debt capabilities and builds our depth in servicing the private credit market, a key industry focus for our team. We look forward to Tim’s contribution to the firm and our clients.”

The firm added: “He has regularly acted for prominent Australian and international banks and financial institutions, ASX listed and unlisted corporates, REITS and property developers and a number of Australian, Asian and US private credit funds.”

Garry added: “Tim’s exceptional skillset further enhances the firm’s position in Australian mid-market transactions.”

“The firm is clear on what it does well and what it wants to be and I am very excited to join my new colleagues at a time of significant growth,” Lipscombe concluded.
