4 new magistrates appointed in ACT
ACT Attorney-General Shane Rattenbury has made four appointments to the ACT Magistrates Court, so as to “further strengthen the delivery of justice” in the territory.
Ian Temby is the ACT’s newest magistrate, bringing more than two decades of experience as a litigator, working across courts and tribunals in various jurisdictions, including the Commonwealth, ACT, NSW and Victoria.

He will commence in his new role today (30 January).
In addition, ACT Crown Prosecutor Rebecca Christensen SC (who has worked with the ACT DPP since 2016), Adelaide barrister Sean Richter (who offers more than 25 years’ experience as a barrister, solicitor, and police prosecutor), and barrister Dr Gregor Urbas (an adjunct associate professor of law at the Australian National University) have all been appointed as special magistrates.
These three assumed their roles on 18 January, for a term of three years.
Speaking about the four appointments, Mr Rattenbury said: “I congratulate all four individuals on their appointments and look forward to their service to the Canberra community on the ACT Magistrates Court.”
