AAT makes 29 appointments

Multiple appointments and reappointments have been made to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, including two new deputy presidents.

Attorney-General George Brandis QC announced the 29 appointments last week, following nine appointments that were made last month.

Professor Bernard McCabe and James Walsh have both been appointed as deputy presidents of the AAT, each for a period of three years commencing on 25 March.

“They will serve as the division head of the taxation and commercial division and division head of the social security and child support division, respectively,” Attorney-General Brandis said.

“These are important leadership positions within the Tribunal.”

Peter Jones and William Stefaniak AM RFD have been appointed as part-time senior members for a period of five years commencing on 25 March, while Kent Chapman and Justin Meyer have been appointed as full-time members for a period of five years commencing on 4 April.

Dominique Grigg, Andrew Carson, Dr Jonathan Gillis, Dr Maria Ho, Louie Hawas, Anne Elias, Dr Bennie Ng and Perry Wood have all been appointed as part-time members for various terms and with various starting dates.

A number of reappointments were also made, including Simon Letch as a full-time member for a period of three years commencing on 16 May.

In addition, the following people have been reappointed as part-time members for a period of three years with varying start dates; Professor Timothy Bohane, Dr Alexandra Bordujenko, Tina Bubutievski, Kate Buxton, Erika Cornwell, Professor John Devereux, Amanda Ducrou, Anne Grant, Adam Halstead, Tamara Hamilton-Noy, Susan Hoffman, Maxina Martellotta, Dr Harry Schwarz and Judith Williams.

“I congratulate the appointees and look forward to the contribution they will make to the Tribunal,” Attorney-General Brandis said.
