Victoria names 3 new magistrates
Three experienced barristers have been appointed to the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria.

In an announcement last week, the Andrews Labor government confirmed the appointment of Alanna Duffy, Timothy Hoare and Constantinos Kilias to the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria.

Ms Duffy brings a wealth of experience to the role, having been a barrister since 2004. Her area of expertise lies within employment and administrative law.
In taking on this new role, Ms Duffy adds to her workload as she also holds the title of deputy president of the Police Registration and Services Board, and Chair of the Harness Racing Victoria Appeals and Disciplinary Board.
A barrister for 18 years, Mr Hoare primarily specialises in criminal law, having acted for the prosecution and defence in cases involving murder, culpable driving, drug offences and serious violent offending, according to a statement from Attorney-General Martin Pakula.
Prior to taking to the bar, Mr Hoare was an associate to Judge David Morrow of the County Court, the Attorney-General noted.
Meanwhile, Constantinos Kilias has almost three decades’ experience as a barrister. He has particular experience in advising on criminal matters, appearing regularly in the Supreme, County and Magistrates’ courts, and in coronial inquests. Before joining the bar, he worked at law firms Hall & Wilcox, Swersky McPhee, and Zervos & Co.
“These three new magistrates bring decades of collective experience to the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria and I congratulate them on their appointments,” Mr Pakula said.
