Senior Cornwall Stodart lawyer elected VP of regional body

Cornwall Stodart special counsel Peter McMullin has been appointed vice president of the Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce & Industry (CACCI).

McMullin (pictured) was elected to the position at the annual conference of CACCI held in Kuala Lumpur last month (17-19 September).

CACCI is a regional group of apex national chambers of commerce and industry, business associations and business enterprises in Asia and the Western Pacific. McMullin is the sole representative from Australia on the CACCI executive.

“I am honoured to be elected to this important position. I believe it is vital for Australia to be an active participant in the Confederation and to be engaging with the region and economies of the region,” said McMullin in a statement.

Before joining Cornwall Stodart, McMullin was a consultant at HWL Ebsworth for six years. Prior to that, he ran his own practice called PG McMullin & Company Solicitors from 1978 to 2002.

McMullin holds a number of board positions, including director of the Australasian Dispute Resolution Centre and the immediate past president of the Victorian Employers’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He has also had a successful political career; he was the Mayor of Geelong in 2006 and Deputy Lord Mayor of Melbourne between 1996 and 1999.

Specsavers legal director, Professor Srechko “Stretch” Kontelj, is also a former Lord Mayor of Geelong. Kontelj won this year’s Corporate Counsel Award at the Lawyers Weekly Law Awards in August.
