Clutz nabs big players in the real estate game

Clutz nabs big players in the real estate game

Clayton Utz has recruited senior lawyers from Herbert Smith Freehills and Minter Ellison for its national real estate practice.

Long-serving HSF partner Simon Taskunas (pictured) will join Clutz’s real estate group in Perth in January 2015. He started working at HSF as a solicitor in 1999 and was promoted to partner in 2008.

Taskunas has been on secondment in Singapore for the past eight years heading up HSF’s real estate practice in the Asia-Pacific region. He specialises in multidisciplinary real estate sector work for clients such as institutional fund managers and sovereign, listed and unlisted investors.

After several years abroad, Taskunas said he and his family are looking forward to returning to Perth.

Clutz has also announced the appointment of Minters’ special counsel Danielle Mildren as a partner in the firm’s Canberra office.

A senior member of Minters’ property practice, Mildren has acted for a range of private and government clients on matters such as leasing, sales and purchases, joint ventures and development agreements.

She starts the new role in November.

Clutz recently hired another partner in Canberra – former Meyer Vandenberg Lawyers partner Jennifer Wyborn – to head up the office’s workplace relations, employment and safety practice.

The firm also gained Sydney-based IT partner Ken Saurajen from Gilbert + Tobin in September; however, in the same week, Clutz lost M&A partner Stephen Moulton to Gadens in Melbourne.

Earlier this year, Clutz dropped dozens of executive employees, including department heads and senior managers, when up to 40 roles were made redundant across the firm’s Sydney and Melbourne offices.
