An IP partner at Corrs Chambers Westgarth has defected to Gadens in Melbourne along with three members of his team.

David Smith (pictured) had been a partner at Corrs for 16 years and a lawyer at the firm for four years prior to that. He brings paralegals Allison Rickard, Sonja Muzoska and Jessica Sanchez with him to Gadens’ intellectual property and technology (IPT) practice.

Gadens’ IPT practice in Melbourne is led by five partners.

Mr Smith said he was attracted to Gadens’ strategy for its IPT and corporate practices and the firm’s culture.

Outside of legal practice, Mr Smith is the vice president of Bicycle Network Victoria, a community organisation that promotes bike riding. He is also a director of ASX-listed Environmental Clean Technologies Ltd.

Last month, Gadens announced that it had hired Victorian silk Glenn McGowan QC as the firm’s chief counsel.
