Two-office firm Allion Legal has appointed a senior lawyer from Herbert Smith Freehills as a principal in its projects practice.
Stephen Byrne (pictured) was an executive counsel at HSF prior to joining Allion’s Sydney office.

His practice focuses on major projects and infrastructure, including refineries, petrochemicals, energy and resources, transport and water.
He is also experienced in negotiating and advising on joint ventures, and advising on arbitration and expert determinations.
Late last year, Allion hired another projects principal, Jonathan Simpson, to spearhead the firm’s projects practice in Sydney. The firm also recruited senior associate Rebecca Cifelli to support Mr Simpson from Perth.
Allion also lost lawyers last year, however, including corporate principal Simon Rear, who defected to Squire Patton Boggs in September along with three other lawyers.
