The appointment tails three lateral partner arrivals, a partner promotion and the addition of two special counsel in insurance, and, according to the BigLaw firm, underlines projected growth in insurance.
Jessica Thurtell has joined Clyde & Co’s commercial litigation defence and major complex coverage dispute offerings teams.
According to the global firm, the former senior associate at DLA Piper brings expertise in defence work in the management liability space, developing remediation programs, responding to regulatory requests, acting in royal commissions, and representing clients through the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).
Thurtell also has experience in handling high-stakes disputes and significant, complex litigation for large insurers, and was heavily involved in establishing the Young Australasian Life Underwriting and Claims Association (YALUCA).
Speaking about the appointment, Sydney head of insurance Gareth Horne praised Thurtell’s “strong connections in the life insurance industry”.
He said: “Her experience in managing major and complex litigation, as well as management liability claims, also adds further depth to our national financial lines practice.”
The firm’s Australian managing partner, Rebecca Kelly, added that the arrival “underlines our commitment to the continued growth of our insurance offering and services to clients”.
