HSF Kramer has added a former Clayton Utz partner to join its growing projects, energy, and infrastructure partnership in Melbourne.
With three decades of experience at Clayton Utz in Melbourne, Marcus Davenport joins over 50 global partners in the growing projects, energy and infrastructure (PEI) practice at Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer (HSF Kramer), with comprehensive experience, leading private-side infrastructure procurement matters across Australia.
Globally, over 200 partners operate in the energy and infrastructure sectors of the firm, and Davenport’s appointment follows the recent expansion of the PEI practice into Asian markets, further solidifying the firm’s commitment to its global footprint.
Just last month, the firm elevated 53 lawyers to senior associate positions in Australia, highlighting the firm’s willingness to grow across the country.
Nick Baker, the PEI managing partner for the Asia and Australia regions, recognised that Davenport adds renowned proficiency to the firm’s infrastructure and private capital services for clients.
“It is fantastic to welcome Marcus to our partnership; Marcus brings a strong mix of technical and commercial skills, along with the experience to support clients on their most significant and complex projects,” Baker said.
“The addition of Marcus strengthens our private capital-led infrastructure offering across social and economic assets such as roads, public transport, defence, schools, social and affordable housing, and hospitals, delivered through PPPs and other procurement models.”
Partner and co-head of infrastructure Nick Carney spoke to the crucial role of legal advice when it comes to the country’s infrastructure assets.

“We also remain focused on supporting our clients to deliver ambitious new infrastructure projects, particularly across energy, defence, security and resilience, and digital.”
Davenport highlighted his eagerness to join HSF Kramer’s partnership this month, to assist both private and public sector clients on multibillion-dollar, nation-building projects.
“I’m really looking forward to becoming part of an outstanding team with such broad and deep expertise in energy and infrastructure, and to working with clients delivering on so much of the ever-growing infrastructure needs of the future, both in Australia and around the world,” Davenport said.
The appointment follows the promotion of 10 partners in April, including four in the energy and infrastructure sector: Tom Dougherty, Skye Kirby, Stuart Robertson and Bailee Walker.
