Global firm adds 7 to Aussie partnership

A global law firm has elevated five and hired an additional two to join its Australian partnership.

DLA Piper has promoted five to partnership along with hiring two more in Australia as part of its annual promotions round in 2020.

“We are pleased to announce the promotion of 67 new partners across the firm. We have a strong pipeline of talent, and nurturing and promoting our people [are] central to our values and strategy of providing the best client service,” Simon Levine, global co-CEO of DLA Piper, commented.

“These accomplished new partners have shown that embracing radical change and being a trusted business adviser [are] at the heart of our commitment to clients, and I would like to congratulate all of them on their promotions.”

The five new partners in Australia are: Greg Bodulovic (intellectual property and technology), Carmen Elder (litigation and regulatory), Jonathon Ellis (litigation and regulatory), Kate Pickthall (real estate) and Adrian Tan (corporate).

The promotions are effective as of 1 May 2020.

Meanwhile, the firm has also brought in two new partners appointing a leading tax disputes partner and litigation lawyer who will be joining the firm effective at the start of May.

Paul McNab will be joining DLA Piper from PwC’s tax controversy and dispute resolution group, where he has been a partner for over 20 years.

John Fogarty, an experienced litigation lawyer, will join DLA Piper from Corrs Chambers Westgarth, where he has been a member of the commercial litigation and class action groups.

Globally, DLA Piper has promoted 67 lawyers to its partnerships with the promotions.

Across the firm’s practices globally, corporate saw the largest intake of new partners with 19 promotions, followed by litigation and regulatory with 15. 

Intellectual property and technology and finance and projects had 10 and eight promotions respectively, while there were six in real estate. Tax and employment both had four, and there was one in restructuring.

In total, there were 33 promotions in the US, three in Canada, one in Latin America, 12 across Continental Europe, 11 in the UK, two in Asia and five in Australia.
