Shaun Clyne, who will join Minters’ Sydney office, has more than 25 years’ experience advising Australian and international public and private companies, private equity funds and financial institutions, and is regularly ranked as one of Australia’s leading mergers and acquisitions and capital markets lawyers in national and international surveys.

Stuart Johnson, MinterEllison managing partner, capital markets corporate said that Mr Clyne’s impressive experience working on signature deals across the ASX 200, “will enhance the capabilities of our transaction solutions team and provide focus in key areas of growth and opportunity in the current environment”.

My Clyne’s experience includes advising on public and private mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings and secondary capital raisings, as well as all matters relating to foreign investment.

He has also acted on many hostile and friendly takeover transactions and has represented clients in numerous proceedings before the Takeovers Panel.

Sydney M&A head partner Con Boulougouris said that Mr Clyne is a top legal practitioner and has overseen major public and private M&A transactions in the technology, media, telecommunication and health sectors.

“This kind of expertise is vital in supporting our clients, particularly as we look forward to the economy recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic and predict sector growth in these areas, he said.

Our FIRB Centre, based in Canberra, is a key differentiator for MinterEllison in this challenging M&A environment.

One of the landmark deals he was involved in was the merger of Rural Press and Fairfax Media in 2006, which created a $9 billion media company at the time.

In the last 12 months, he advised ASX-listed marketing business WPP on the sale of the Australian and New Zealand arms of its market research business Kantar for $168 million and advised Lombard Insurance on its acquisition of Assetinsure.

"The firm’s strong engagement with the APAC region demonstrates that offshore clients trust MinterEllison to help them navigate their investment into Australia, which has become more complex with the recent tightening of foreign investment approvals,” Mr Clyne said.

"As we face this unique and challenging period of time, the investment landscape in Australia and across the globe is changing rapidly. I am looking forward to joining the impressive team at MinterEllison as we help our clients navigate the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities that will start to emerge as economies and businesses start to recover.”
