The latest promotions take the firm’s numbers to 41 partners and more than 200 dedicated insurance lawyers, with 55 per cent of these being female.

Chief executive partner David Kearney said that these promotions reflect Wotton + Kearney’s ability to offer their clients deeper expertise by growing the ranks of senior specialists in key insurance lines.

The firm’s Australian financial lines senior team is being strengthened with the promotion of new partners Charu Stevenson (financial institutions, SME PI and environmental liability), Dean Pinto (financial services, D&O liability and shareholder class actions) and Robert Finnigan (construction PI, first party ISR and construction disputes).

In addition, Scott Macoun’s promotion to partner further expands the firm’s general liability offering in Queensland, in particular helping clients to manage complex and volume personal injury claims brought under the pre-action process prescribed by the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002 (Qld) (PIPA).

Wotton + Kearney has also made nine additional promotions for special counsel and senior associate positions.

Special counsel elevations include Thomas Cavanagh (financial lines, Sydney), Ronald Mok (financial lines, Brisbane) and Andrew Moore (property, Auckland).

The new promoted senior associates are Alycia Amanatidis (financial lines, Melbourne), Alison Cupples (financial lines, Auckland), Chris Knight (financial lines, Sydney), Tim Holmes (property and energy, Sydney), Sarah Mellowes (financial lines, Sydney) and Matt O’Donnell (financial lines, Brisbane).

Furthermore, complementing these promotions is the lateral hire of special counsel Grant Covington who joins the firm in July.

Mr Covington brings 20 years of industry experience and specialises in financial lines and financial institutions claims and advice.

He has worked for most major insurers and Lloyd’s Syndicates in the Australian market on PI and D&O claims and is a well-regarded coverage adviser on complex indemnity claims.

“We are delighted to welcome Charu, Dean, Robert and Scott as partners and congratulate all our new senior lawyers on their well-deserved promotions, which are recognition of their talents and continued commitment to their clients. I am also pleased to welcome Grant to the firm,” Mr Kearney said.
