Firm: King & Wood Mallesons (Payright)

Deal: Payright has launched its IPO and is expected to begin trading on the ASX on 23 December 2020.

Value: Undisclosed

Area: Equity capital markets

Key players: The team advising Payright was led by King & Wood Mallesons partners David Eliakim and Nicola Charlston and senior associate Anthony Boogert, with support by solicitors Rhiannon Parker and Jordonne Colley.

Deal significance: Payright is a Melbourne-headquartered company that is housed in the buy now, pay later (BNPL) sector, specialising in mid-sized consumer purchases.

“The buy now, pay later space has been subject to a lot of recent regulatory scrutiny,” said Mr Eliakim, commenting off the back of the transaction.

“Being able to easily identify and resolve potential issues with an IPO requires a huge amount of collaborative input from specialists across the firm in areas such as financial regulation and capital markets.

“KWM’s fintech strength comes being able to call on a deep cross-practice team to achieve a great outcome for its clients.”
