Details surrounding Mr Butterworth’s official exit date are under discussion with the group currently in the process of recruiting his replacement.
“On behalf of the Board and management at Slater & Gordon, I would like to thank Scott for his significant contribution to the transformation of the Company and in building the firm of the future,” Slater and Gordon chief executive officer John Somerville said.
“We wish him well in the next stage of his career.”
The resignation of Mr Butterworth comes a month shy of Slater and Gordon chair James MacKenzie temporarily stepping down from his post as he undergoes treatment for a medical condition.
His duties are being temporarily taken on by acting chair Elana Rubin until his return, which is expected to be within a few months.
