After being held as a hybrid event last year in line with COVID-safe rules and rescheduled this year due to lockdowns, the black-tie event was held in person on Friday, 19 November at The Star in Sydney.

The sixth annual event was a chance to recognise the accomplishments, innovation, and professional development of senior legal practitioners who are leading the profession through what has been a challenging and turbulent 18 months.

The event crowned over 30 winners, with award recipients addressing the audience to share their victory and reflect on their successes.

Neilson Law won the prestigious partner of the year excellence award, which was chosen from the highest-scoring winners of all the award categories.

Clayton Utz walked away with four trophies on the night, including insolvency partner of the year, native title partner of the year, planning and environment partner of the year, and projects, energy and resources partner of the year.

Meanwhile, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, Gilbert + Tobin, and Hall & Wilcox won three awards each this year.

Tonight’s Partner of the Year Awards celebrated the best partners and principals in Australia whose technical expertise, adaptability, leadership and communication qualities have set them apart,” Lawyers Weekly deputy editor Jerome Doraisamy said.

“Such acknowledgement is especially pertinent at this juncture, after such a trying year, not just for lawyers but for all Australians.

On behalf of Lawyers Weekly, I offer my congratulations to all of tonight’s finalists and eventual winners.

“Whether you went home with a trophy or not, you can and should be exceptionally proud of your accomplishments over the past 12 months – just as your family, friends, colleagues are, and just as Lawyers Weekly is.

Lawyers Weekly would like to thank the event’s principal partner Commonwealth Bank, platinum partner Plenti, gold partner Leap, and event partners Sheahan Lock Partners, Cyber Security Connect, and Finni.
