Moray & Agnew to require boosters

National law firm Moray & Agnew had updated its workplace policy for COVID-19 vaccinations, prescribing that all staff and visitors to the office must have received a booster shot, in addition to two doses of an approved vaccine.

In October of last year, Moray & Agnew introduced a mandatory workplace COVID-19 vaccination policy, anyone who attends a firm workplace (including any social events) would have to be double-vaccinated against coronavirus.

The national firm – which has offices in Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth and Sydney – has now updated that workplace policy, in light of government recommendations and advice from ATAGI pertaining to booster shots.

In a staff-wide email, the firm wrote that it has considered the surge of COVID-19 cases with the transmission of Omicron in the wider community, as well as feedback from a staff survey, in extrapolating that booster shots will now be required.

“We are conscious of the priority we must give to our staff, workplace health and safety, the impact of public health orders, the nature of the work we undertake in the courts, with witnesses, the general public, clients, and external service providers,” the firm wrote.

“Under the updated policy, which will be effective 1 March 2022, to be considered fully vaccinated, or as it is now called, ‘an up-to-date vaccination status against COVID-19’, and compliant with our policy, you will need to have received a booster within three months of your eligibility to do so.”

Accordingly, the firm noted, “you should calculate when you are eligible for the currently recommended third dose and schedule that dose within three months of your eligibility date”.

Proof of booster vaccination status will have to be sighted by a member of the firm’s people and development team and/or an office manager. Moreover, masks are once again mandatory in some of the firm’s offices.

Exemptions to the policy are to be “reviewed on a case-by-case basis”.

As was the case with the policy unveiled late last year, the direction applies to all partners, staff, contractors, visitors and guests to the office.

Speaking to Lawyers Weekly, Moray & Agnew national managing partner Geoff Connellan (pictured) said: “Our updated COVID-19 vaccination policy continues the management of our COVID-19 response based upon the latest health advice and reflecting our desire to provide a safe place for our teams to work and for our clients to visit.

“We will continue to monitor developments in the pandemic and review our policies accordingly.”
