Simon Potter (pictured) has been named as the new managing director in Australia for Spruson & Ferguson, stepping up from his previous role as head of the Australian chemical/life sciences team.

Mr Potter has served as a director of Spruson & Ferguson since 2019 and has a PhD in medical research. He is based in the firm’s Sydney office.

Spruson & Ferguson has over 480 employees working from nine offices in Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, China and Hong Kong and is owned by IPH Limited, which comprises a network of member firms working in nine IP jurisdictions and servicing more than 25 countries.

Mr Potter is “an accomplished professional services leader”, the firm said in a statement, having “comprehensive knowledge of the firm and its operations since commencing 16 years ago”.

Speaking about his new position, he said: “I am excited to take on this role and continue to work with my exceptional colleagues in this new capacity. We have a great team who will continue to service our clients well and work hard to grow our business.”

IPH chief operating officer John O’Shea added: “Simon brings a tremendous combination of technical, people and business development leadership skills to the managing director role, and I have every confidence that he will be an outstanding addition to both the IPH Group and Spruson & Ferguson leadership teams.”
