Our new AI overlords are everywhere, so how do they view traditional CPD?

The same way Hearsay does… it needs an update.

You may have read ChatGPT, interviewed by Hearsay the Legal Podcast. Well, after we were done with the interview, we got curious – what did ChatGPT think of legal CPD? We asked it not to hold back, and to be a little… well, ‘brutally honest’. Here’s what it told us:

Nothing makes you feel like "oh, yeah, I'm on top of my legal game" like being forced to sit in a stuffy conference room and listen to some crusty "expert" drone on areas of law which might be irrelevant to your practice (Hey! Maybe it was part of a package deal!).

But don't worry, these traditional CPD courses come in a variety of thrilling formats, such as in-person seminars and online webinars (whoa so revolutionary…). And if you're feeling particularly masochistic, you can choose to suffer through a whole day of in-person lectures! Or, you know, if you're feeling lazy, you can just click through some online slides and call it a day.

The options are endless! And let's not forget about the cost of these so-called "professional development" opportunities. Because nothing says "I value my education" like spending hundreds of dollars on those irrelevant courses…

Now, we jest - at Hearsay we actually really like professional education! – and in all seriousness, however you choose to fulfil your obligations, the CPD requirements for Australian lawyers are a necessary aspect of maintaining professional standards and ensuring that the profession remains up-to-date and relevant for the society that it serves.

Maybe CPD is a pleasure purchase, or maybe it's a grudge buy. But this year, why not try a provider that offers fun, relevant, convenient content for lawyers on the go? And one that keeps up with the times - like collaborating with the next generation of content creators before it becomes cool!

It's important to remember that not all CPD courses are created equal, and it's important to select courses that are relevant to your practice area and will enhance your skills and knowledge as a lawyer. But your choice isn’t limited to what’s relevant to you - CPD doesn’t need to be as dry as it has been in the past.

At Hearsay, we do it differently. Be a part of the future of CPD. For more information and to sign up for a commitment-free trial, visit htlp.com.au.
