At Colin Biggers & Paisley, Laura Reisz is set to be promoted to partner, and Lachlan Boughton and Alicia Taylor to special counsel as of 1 January 2024.

Ms Reisz’s practice focuses on providing advice in relation to, and acting as defence and coverage counsel on, a variety of professional indemnity, financial services and construction-related claims, and her clients include Australian and international insurers and reinsurers as well as corporations across the Asia-Pacific region.

Mr Boughton works in professional negligence claims, general liability, property damage, fraud and recoveries and acts for clients in the transport and logistics, legal, building and construction, property and development and financial services industries, while Ms Taylor’s practice focuses on litigation, dispute resolution, conduct and compliance matters.

The promotions, the firm said in a statement, come within its “burgeoning” insurance practice, which has experienced substantial growth in the last 12 months – with these three appointments, the firm has now promoted 20 professionals internally and appointed 30 into its insurance practice this year.

Lawyers Weekly has extensively covered the growth of the national firm’s insurance ranks, which you can view here.

Colin Biggers & Paisley managing partner Nick Crennan said: “I extend my congratulations to Laura, Lachlan and Alicia on this well-deserved acknowledgment of their contribution to our practice.

“These promotions reaffirm our commitment to fostering excellence in the legal profession and our investment in our industries of focus.

“I have no doubt that these talented individuals will continue to contribute significantly to the success of our clients and our practice.”

Speaking about the expansion of its offering in this space, firm co-head of insurance Gavin Creighton said: “Throughout 2023, we have continued to invest significantly in our insurance group across our three offices.”

“The insurance industry is a key focus for Colin Biggers & Paisley, and the appointment of 30 new team members, plus the promotion of 20 lawyers, across our insurance group means we are extremely well placed to continue winning work across our insurance focus areas and providing the very best advice to our clients in 2024,” he posited.

“It was particularly pleasing to recognise the efforts of our four promoted partners Pat Cavanagh, Georgina Wong, Mathisha Panagoda and Tim Coghlan, and to also celebrate the promotion of Laura Reisz to partner, commencing 1 January.”

Colin Biggers & Paisley has 73 partners and more than 500 staff across its offices in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.
