Proximity – the recipient of the Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards Government Team of the Year in 2022 – has appointed Andrew Crisp AM APM (pictured) as an expert adviser.

The national law firm stated that within his new role, Crisp would “lead major business transformation initiatives and taskforces, undertake governance, organisational and operational reviews, and set strategic direction to deliver tangible client results”.

Crisp was most recently Victoria’s emergency management commissioner, a role he held for five years. While in this position, he “led significant reform in the state, including the restructure of Emergency Management Victoria, establishment of Emergency Recovery Victoria, and implementation of the 24/7 specialist workforce at the State Control Centre”.

Crisp also had a 40-year career with Victoria Police and held several senior leadership positions, including deputy commissioner of regional operations in Victoria and assistant commissioner of State Emergency and Security Command.

Proximity stated that during Crisp’s extensive tenure as a senior leader with Victoria Police, “he led a team that reduced statewide crime rates and also developed lasting relationships with many of the state’s multicultural communities”.

During his career serving the Victorian community, Crisp was awarded the Australian Police Medal in 2012 and became a member of the Order of Australia in 2022.

“Proximity is known in the industry for solving challenges with integrity and enabling clients to go further,” Crisp stated.

“The organisation’s values of genuine people, bold approach and helpful outcomes really resonated with me, and I’m looking forward to generously sharing my experience and knowledge with the team and Proximity’s clients to achieve exceptional results for government and the community.”

This news follows the recent appointment of longstanding member Anthony Honeyman as Proximity’s new national lead for consulting towards the end of February.

Elizabeth Langdon, Proximity’s principal adviser and Victorian public sector lead, emphasised that Crisp’s notable experience will be an exceptional addition to the firm.

“With an impressive career, a long list of awards and exceptional leadership qualities, we’re thrilled to welcome Andrew into our rapidly growing Victorian team,” she said.

“As an Australian-owned company and government-first provider of multidisciplinary services, Andrew joins Proximity’s team of highly accomplished experts, each with a unique expertise to service a range of bespoke client needs. We have absolute confidence that Andrew will make a significant contribution to the work we do and greatly benefit our clients.”
