Meritas, a global alliance of independent law firms, has appointed James Skelton as the chair of its global Emerging Leaders Advisory Board (ELAB) at its Annual General Meeting in Mexico City.

Skelton is a partner at Sydney-based firm Swaab, which is the exclusive NSW member of Meritas. He has played a key role in advancing Emerging Leaders initiatives globally, as well as supporting young lawyers in Australia and New Zealand. Skelton also serves on the leadership team of the Meritas Global Intellectual Property group and has been involved with the alliance group since 2018.

Meritas currently has 175 global member firms and supports a network of more than 9,000 globally.

Skelton joins the ELAB leadership team alongside chair-elect Molly Campolong, from US firm Robinson Gray, and secretary Jemma Forrest, from UK firm Anderson Strathern.

“I am proud to take on this role within Meritas and look forward to continuing efforts to foster the development of emerging leaders within the global network,” Skelton said.

“I would like to thank Swaab managing partner, Mary Digiglio and the Swaab partnership for their longstanding support of my involvement in Meritas and for enabling me to further strengthen Swaab’s position as a key member within the network.”
