A pair of Melbourne-based siblings plan to shake up the outsourcing landscape for Australian accounting firms, with their new knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) firm, Slingshot Solutions.

While 80 per cent of offshore work for Australian accounting firms currently goes to the Philippines, Slingshot Solutions will connect accountants and lawyers with highly skilled, culturally aligned professionals from India.

Founders Kartik Lakhani and Nomeeta Mistry said the venture aims to reimagine offshoring from the ground up.

“Built by professionals, for professionals, the business is focused on delivering quality, continuity, and care – values often missing from the traditional offshoring mode,” said Mistry.

By tapping into India’s deep pool of skilled professionals, the founders estimate that firms can save up to 70 per cent on labour costs, allowing them to pay their local teams well, reinvest in growth, and continue delivering excellent service to clients.

“Most offshoring is designed to cut costs, not build capability,” said Lakhani.

“We’re flipping that model on its head. As accountants ourselves, we know what it takes to create a genuinely valuable offshore team – one that integrates seamlessly into your practice and helps you grow.”

Despite India’s reputation for technical excellence, only a small fraction of Australia’s offshore professional services work currently lands there. Slingshot aims to change that by combining India’s deep talent pool with Australian work standards, strong onboarding, and real investment in people.

“India, as a Commonwealth country, shares many of the same foundations in tax and law as Australia, making it a perfect match for professional services offshoring,” said Mistry.

“This alignment allows for easier training, smoother integration, and more seamless collaboration between local and offshore teams.”

While accountants have led the way in offshoring, the legal profession represents a major untapped opportunity, according to the firm.

Despite rising workloads and mounting administrative pressures, many Australian law firms have yet to embrace offshore support, leaving significant room for growth and innovation in the sector.

“There’s a lot of headroom in the legal space,” said Mistry.
