National law firm Moray & Agnew has acquired Greenwoods Law in Cairns, as it moves to bolster its Queensland operations.
Moray & Agnew has acquired Greenwoods Law, an established commercial law firm with deep roots in the community and commercial activity of Cairns.
Greenwoods has been servicing the Cairns community for more than 44 years.
There are, Moray & Agnew said in a statement, “significant similarities” in the traditional work undertaken by Greenwoods Law and the capabilities and capacity of the Moray & Agnew team in Cairns to look after their clients, including property, commercial, and wills and estate practice areas
Paralegal Danika Walker will be joining Moray & Agnew as part of the acquisition.
The news follows Moray & Agnew’s appointment of a new national managing partner last week, as well as its promotion of 25 lawyers, including six to partner, in early June.
The acquisition became effective earlier this week, on 1 July.
Moray & Agnew head of the Cairns office Andrew Kerr (pictured) said: “We have been working closely with David Greenwood and Barbara McQuillan to ensure a smooth transition for clients with minimal disruption and are excited by the opportunity.
“We share the philosophy of fulfilling the role of trusted legal adviser to clients, and we consider that the Moray & Agnew team in Cairns will be able to bring local knowledge and national experience and support to the continuing Greenwoods Law clients.
“Preliminary discussions with existing clients and referrers of Greenwoods Law have been very positive, and we are looking forward to this opportunity.”
Greenwoods director Barbara McQuillan added that she is “looking forward to a break, and believed [she and Greenwood] were leaving the business and continuing clients in capable hands”.
Moray & Agnew has more than 800 staff, including 110 partners, and has offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Newcastle, Perth, and Cairns.
