Tamara Sims (pictured) has joined Dentons, having most recently served as the head of pro bono and responsible business at Colin Biggers & Paisley. Prior to this, she was a senior lawyer at Gilbert + Tobin.

She brings, Dentons said in a statement, more than two decades of experience working in legal practice in the pro bono and not for profit sectors, focusing on advocating for marginalised and disadvantaged communities to ensure access to justice, and has a “wide range” of experience, including across human rights, refugee law, administrative law, international human rights, disability and discrimination law, victims’ compensation, domestic violence, housing rights and credit and debt matters.

Sims will be based in the global firm’s Sydney office.

The news follows Dentons’ promotion of 18 lawyers, including three to its partnership, earlier this month. It also follows the firm’s taking of an employment team from Deloitte Legal, as reported at the start of this month.

Speaking about the hire, Dentons partner and current head of pro bono Jodie Wauchope said: “We are very excited to have Tamara join Dentons.

“We are committed to having a positive impact on the communities in which we live and work, and pro bono forms a big part of that. Having Tamara lead our national pro bono practice will further drive our contribution and impact as a firm.”

The firm’s Australian chair, Amber Warren, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Tamara to the partnership. I’m looking forward to seeing our pro bono clients and our lawyers benefit from her extensive experience.”

Sims said: “I am really looking forward to strengthening relationships with community partners and existing pro bono clients, and working with our lawyers to find new and innovative ways to deliver pro bono legal assistance.”
