Today (2 September) marks the official launch of Law Mastery, a fresh initiative designed to equip Australian lawyers with cutting-edge skills while fostering meaningful connections in a rapidly evolving legal landscape.
Billed as a new community for lawyers to learn, engage and interact, Law Mastery is a response to both the speed of change in the profession and the hunger for quality in-person training opportunities. In an era dominated by digital platforms, remote webinars and the encroachment of AI, Law Mastery makes a strong case for face-to-face learning as the cornerstone of professional growth.
Why now?
Australia’s legal sector is experiencing unprecedented change, from generative AI tools to shifting client expectations and regulatory updates. According to organisers Captivate Q director Russell Stephenson, that environment is precisely why the program was created.
“Lawyers are under more pressure than ever to stay relevant, adapt quickly, and differentiate themselves,” Stephenson told Lawyers Weekly.
“We launched Law Mastery because there’s a clear need for smaller, focused, high-quality in-person programs where lawyers can not only learn but also build their brand, expand their networks, and connect with peers in a way that digital simply can’t replicate.”
What makes Law Mastery different?
Unlike broad-based conferences or passive online webinars, each Law Mastery program is deliberately capped in size to maximise interaction and accelerate learning. Sessions are followed by networking drinks, positioned as the “place to be” for the profession to exchange ideas, strengthen connections and forge collaborations that last well beyond the event itself.
Stephenson emphasised that this model is about community as much as it is about content.
“We’re building a new community for ambitious lawyers who want to be at the forefront of their field,” he said. “It’s about being visible, connected, and prepared for what’s next.”
The first step in a national rollout
Law Mastery will debut on 3 November, with its first event in Sydney, delivered in partnership with Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer and focused on the fast-evolving field of litigation and dispute resolution.
Future programs will expand across other states and span a wide range of practice areas. Importantly, the direction of the series will be shaped by the community itself, ensuring relevance and responsiveness to the issues lawyers most want addressed.
More information and tickets for the first event are available here.
Law Mastery is set to become the must-join community for lawyers looking to thrive in a new era of practice. Places are strictly limited at each program to maintain an interactive format and allow for tailored discussion.
