Sparke Helmore has appointed five new partners across several key practice areas of the national firm, effective 1 July 2025.

The newly appointed partners include Alanna Lucchese and Adam Cunynghame from the government, public and regulatory team; Max Calligeros from the statutory lines insurance team; Alex Caldwell from the property, environment and planning practice; and Matthew O’Sullivan from the banking and finance team.

These appointments span five of the firm’s offices nationwide – Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, and Newcastle – reflecting Sparke Helmore’s commitment to strengthening its presence and expertise across multiple regions.

Andrew White, the firm’s national managing partner, welcomed the new partners, noting that their appointments reflect both their professional expertise and the significant contributions they have made to the firm.

“I’m proud to see the appointment of Alanna, Adam, Max, Alex, and Matthew to our growing partnership. They are all exceptionally talented lawyers and recognised as leaders in their respective areas of law,” White said.

“Their promotion is a testament to the hard work they have put in to reach this career milestone and highlights the wealth of talent within our firm.”

In addition to the internal promotions, the national law firm has welcomed 11 lateral partners, which White described as a move that will both enhance the firm’s services and align with its culture.

“I am excited that eleven lateral partners have recently joined us, allowing us to expand and enhance our services. We place a great deal of importance on cultural fit when we look to bring talent into the firm,” White said.

“Vanessa Maruna, Hamish Fraser, Jason Kwan, Matt Ellis, David Kerwin, Thea Price, Heather Beckingsale, Aston Joppich, Ben Burke, Stephen Putnins, and George Roussos each bring outstanding qualities that not only strengthen our firm but also align with our values.”

This news comes after the firm promoted 10 to special counsel and 10 to senior associate at the start of July and added a corporate and commercial partner from Mills Oakley in June.
