Attorney-General Michael Daley said: “I am pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Johnson to the District Court.”

Previously, Johnson served as a barrister at Samuel Griffith Chambers since 2003. He was admitted as a barrister in the same year.

Johnson has worked for Legal Aid NSW between 1990 and 2003, serving in the Prisoners Legal Service and as a solicitor in charge of crime at Parramatta.

Prior to joining Legal Aid NSW, he was an associate to Supreme Court judge Rex Smart, after being admitted as a solicitor in 1989.

Daley said: “Mr Johnson has extensive legal experience as a solicitor and barrister, which will strengthen the court’s capacity to deliver timely and fair justice to the people of NSW.”

Johnson has experience in criminal law across all state jurisdictions, having worked on inquests and inquiries, appellate work, and parole hearings.

“I congratulate Mr Johnson on his well-deserved appointment,” Daley said.

This news follows the court’s appointment of new judges last month, in July, and in March.
