Christine Tran (pictured) has joined Jones Day, having most recently served at HSF Kramer, where she was a partner for five and a half years.

She brings, the global firm said in a statement, nearly two decades of experience as a commercial litigator, with a particular focus in defending class actions, and has represented clients in several of the most significant class actions filed in Australia.

Tran is “one of the few practitioners in Australia with trial experience in both shareholder and product liability class actions”, the firm went on, and regularly counsels leading Australian and multinational companies in a wide range of industries with the effective management of class action risks.

She will be based in Jones Day’s Sydney office and work alongside an integrated team of over 200 global disputes lawyers across dozens of the BigLaw firm’s offices.

Speaking about the appointment, Jones Day global disputes practice leader Sion Richards said: “Christine is a leading lawyer in the class actions defence space as well as in securities-related claims and other complex commercial disputes. These are important areas for our clients across the globe.

“She is recognised for her combination of legal talent and strategic acumen and is a tremendous addition to our worldwide team. I’m pleased to welcome her to Jones Day.”

The firm’s Sydney partner-in-charge, Chris Ahern, said: “Christine is one of Australia’s foremost disputes lawyers, known for her exceptional judgment and deep experience defending class actions, product liability matters, and other complex commercial disputes.

“Her insight into the Australian market and her record advising major corporates on high-stakes litigation will bring immediate value to our clients. We’re delighted to welcome her to Jones Day.”

Tran added: “Jones Day is known for its class action defence work globally. The firm has assembled a team of highly skilled and experienced lawyers focused on representing clients in complex disputes, and I look forward to adding strength to that existing capability.

“It is a great opportunity to be part of this dynamic and renowned practice. I am excited to be joining a firm with an established culture of seamless collaboration of lawyers around the world, and am eager to begin serving our clients alongside my new colleagues.”
