Carter Newell has promoted Elle Mariconte to special counsel, Andrea Clifford, Mikaela McKinnon and Abraham Hopkins to senior associate, and Brittany Lorenzini to associate, effective 1 February.

CEO Marc Walker said the promotions “reflect our commitment to developing exceptional legal talent”.

“Each of these lawyers [has] demonstrated outstanding technical expertise and dedication to client service, particularly strengthening our insurance and construction practices,” Walker said.

Mariconte, an experienced insurance lawyer, has a focus on personal injury, liability, property damage, and professional indemnity claims for local and international insurers and corporate clients.

Working on the general liability team, Mariconte has a special interest in defending multi-party construction site disputes, specifically worker-to-worker claims, and in advising and enforcing the associated contractual indemnity and insurance issues.

Clifford, from the professional liability team, focuses on financial lines, including employment practices liability and professional indemnity.

In addition to regularly acting for clients in the construction industry, architects, certifiers and building consultants, Clifford has assisted real estate professionals and guided insureds through challenging litigation, regulatory investigations and constructive resolutions.

McKinnon, a construction law expert in the construction, projects and infrastructure and professional liability teams, has been involved in several complex litigation disputes across various jurisdictions.

Her experience enables her to provide advice to insurers on professional liability claims, contract work claims, pollution liability, and plant and equipment claims across a number of professionals.

Hopkins provides invaluable assistance across construction and insurance matters, and predominantly dispute resolution, within the firm’s construction, projects and infrastructure practice.

He has acted for principals, contractors and consultants on a wide range of civil, building, mechanical, electrical, public infrastructure, energy and mining resources projects across Australia.

New associate Lorenzini, who also assists in the construction, projects and infrastructure practice, advises clients on contract negotiation and drafting construction contracts.

Her expertise includes advising principals, contractors, subcontractors and consultants on contracts, from tendering and negotiation phases through to execution.
