Amelia Morgan (pictured) has joined Ashurst as a partner in its corporate practice at the firm’s Sydney office, a move the firm said will strengthen its mergers and acquisitions capabilities both locally and internationally.

Before joining the global law firm, Morgan spent more than a decade at global rival Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer, where she most recently served as a partner for nearly three years.

Morgan is a seasoned adviser on public and private M&A and corporate matters, serving a diverse client base that includes major ASX-listed companies and private capital-backed investors across the financial services, energy, consumer, and technology sectors.

In a statement, the global law firm highlighted Morgan’s role in some of Australia’s “largest and most significant” M&A transactions, including acting as lead partner for RACWA on its proposed $1.35 billion general insurance partnership with IAG, and for CBA on the sale of Commonwealth Private’s personal advice business.

Ashurst’s global CEO, Paul Jenkins, expressed how Morgan’s experience and strong relationships with corporates and private capital investors would bolster the firm’s ability to deliver complex transactions across key sectors, including technology, energy and financial services.

“Amelia’s experience and market profile will help us deliver outstanding results for our clients across various sectors, including in the key areas of technology, energy and financial services,” Jenkins said.

“Her deep relationships with leading corporates and private capital investors will be invaluable to our highly regarded M&A team.”

Tony Damian, Ashurst’s co-head of M&A in Australia, echoed the sentiment, saying Morgan’s strong track record in complex, high-value transactions, together with her focus on client outcomes and thought leadership, closely aligns with the firm’s strategy and culture.

“We are delighted to welcome Amelia to Ashurst. She has an outstanding track record advising on complex, high-value transactions,” Damian said.

“Amelia’s commitment to exceptional client outcomes and thought leadership aligns perfectly with our strategy and culture.”

Speaking about her new role, Morgan shared she was pleased to join Ashurst, highlighting the firm’s market-leading M&A practice and depth of expertise.

“I’m delighted to join Ashurst, a global firm with a market-leading M&A practice and deep sector expertise. The team’s profile and the calibre of its lawyers are evident from their role on many of the market’s defining public and private deals,” Morgan said.

“I look forward to working with colleagues in Australia and across the network to help clients navigate complex transactions with confidence.”
