Just months after MinterEllison appointed Lee Horan to head up the private capital practice, the firm has hired Sydney-based special counsel Kieran McMonagle and Victor Salman to support him.

Both McMonagle and Salman returned to MinterEllison from Gilbert + Tobin’s banking team, where they advised leading and international private equity sponsors and their financing sources on high-profile, sponsor-led acquisitions and divestments.

They also each have deep experience with corporate borrowers, financial institutions, credit funds and other lenders.

Along with MinterEllison’s leveraged finance team, the duo will support those in the corporate M&A and capital markets practice.

Managing partner of capital markets and corporate Jeremy Blackshaw said building depth in the team was a “critical part of strengthening our offering to private capital clients”.

“Lee’s arrival this month, combined with the appointments of Victor and Kieran, reflects our continued investment in this space and strengthens our ability to support clients as deal structures, financing conditions and execution risk continue to evolve,” Blackshaw said.

Con Boulougouris, head of M&A, said the refreshed private equity strategy is aligned with developments the firm has been seeing in New York and London, and was “firmly grounded in the evolution of the broader private capital ecosystem”.

“As private credit, family offices, pension funds and sovereign wealth funds take on an increasingly central role in private equity deals, our longstanding advisory relationships with these capital providers, and the continued strengthening of our private markets bench, set us apart in the market,” Boulougouris said.
