Alex Elser has joined White & Case, having served at King & Wood Mallesons as a partner for nearly eight years.

She is, the global firm said in a statement, a market-leading private equity and mergers and acquisitions lawyer, who for more than two decades has led some of the most complex and significant transactions in the Australian market, and has worked with many pre-eminent global and Australian private equity firms and has experience across all aspects of transactional work for private equity sponsors, including private mergers and acquisitions, shareholder and joint venture agreements, management equity plans and other equity structuring matters as well as broad corporate advisory experience.

The news follows the appointment of partner Will Stawell from KWM, marking his return to White & Case, back in January. Stawell then spoke with Lawyers Weekly about why he returned to his old firm.

It also follows the firm’s promotion of two Australian lawyers to the partnership in October, and its global rollout of Legora late last year.

Speaking about the hire, White & Case chair Heather McDevitt said: “Leading clients continue to trust White & Case to support their most important, complex, cross-border private capital transactions across Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

“Alex has significant experience advising leading private equity investors and strengthens our global private capital and M&A capabilities.”

The firm’s APAC leader and partner, Brendan Quinn, added that Elser’s arrival “marks a significant step in the continued expansion of our Australian and Asia-Pacific practice”.

“Her track record advising key private equity sponsors adds significant depth to our team advising global clients investing into, and out of, Australia,” he said.
