A strategic partnership between innovator ActiveNav and legal technology consultancy firm Verlata Consulting will assist firms with identifying, governing, and securing unstructured client data.
Effective immediately, ActiveNav and Verlata Consulting will deliver their combined services to law firms in the Asia-Pacific region and Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
The partnership pools together ActiveNav’s Cloud, a platform purpose-built to discover unstructured data at scale, and Verlata’s deep legal operations expertise, including its recently established information practice focused on data stewardship, risk, and compliance.
ActiveNav CEO Peter Baumann said the partnership was built “on a shared understanding that data governance [has] grown beyond a technology problem into an operational one”.
“Verlata has spent years embedded in the day-to-day reality of how law firms work, and their new information governance practice is a natural extension of that expertise,” Baumann said.
“For their clients, ActiveNav Cloud now provides continuous visibility into exactly where matter content lives outside the DMS and the ability to finally do something about it. For us, Verlata extends our reach into market where demand for this capability is accelerating.
“It’s a partnership where both sides make the other meaningfully better.”
Jason Mills, CEO of Verlata, said law firms invest heavily in document management systems, but a significant volume of sensitive client data “still ends up outside those systems ungoverned and often invisible”.
“With ActiveNav, we can finally give our clients a clear picture of that exposure and a practical path to resolving it,” Mills said.
“That’s been a missing piece in our consulting toolkit for some time. Our information governance team is already working with firms that understand data stewardship is no longer optional.
“This technology is what turns that conversation into measurable action.”
