Carter Newell has elevated 10 staff into senior positions across its Australian offices in a major promotion round spanning both the firm’s legal and business operations teams.

The appointments include two special counsel, four senior associates, two associates, and two senior operational appointments across finance and IT.

These individuals will officially step into their new positions, effective 1 July 2026.

In a statement, the firm shared that these promotions reflect its ongoing evolution and commitment to strengthening technical capability across its core construction, insurance, planning and environment, and broader disputes practices.

The national law firm’s latest promotion round stretches across all three of its Australian offices, with the appointments based in Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne.

The firm’s new special counsel are Olivia Gardener (construction, projects and infrastructure, Brisbane) and Aristea Friedrich (professional liability, Sydney).

The firm’s new senior associates include Vesna Koteska-Frederiksen (professional liability, Melbourne), Sam Cooper (general liability, Brisbane), Isabelle Touma (professional liability, Sydney), and Lara Hamed (general liability, Sydney).

Clare Ryan (general liability, Brisbane) and Eliza Burke (planning and environment, Brisbane) have been elevated to associate roles.

Carter Newell has also strengthened its corporate services team through two internal promotions, with Jodie Farquhar stepping into the role of finance operations manager and Jack McLeod appointed IT operations manager, both based in Brisbane.

Speaking about the recent appointments, Marc Walker, CEO of Carter Newell, said the promotions reflect the firm’s commitment to recognising and rewarding talent, describing them as a reflection of the sustained performance, dedication and professional growth demonstrated across the firm.

“At Carter Newell, we strive to foster an environment where talent is recognised and rewarded, and it’s always fulfilling to see that come to fruition in our elevations,” Walker said.

“We are proud of the talent nurtured here, and these elevations are a formal reflection of the cumulative growth our people achieve through their dedication to excellence every day.

“Congratulations to all being elevated on achieving this next milestone in their careers.”
