After nearly 15 years as a partner at multinational law firm Pinsent Masons, a finance specialist has taken the helm as the firm’s next senior partner.
Pinsent Masons has elected finance partner John Maciver (pictured), who currently leads the firm’s financial services sector, as its next senior partner.
He will take the reins of the multinational law firm from 1 October 2026, succeeding Andrew Masraf in the senior leadership role.
In a statement, the firm said Maciver had helped drive strong growth across its financial services sector, which has expanded by more than 20 per cent over the past two financial years under his leadership.
The appointment marks the latest chapter in a Pinsent Masons career spanning more than three decades.
Maciver first joined the firm as a trainee in 1995, starting his career in Scotland before moving to London.
He returned to Pinsent Masons in 2008 and has since emerged as a key figure in shaping the firm’s financial services strategy, while also helping to drive growth across its finance, restructuring and funds practices.
Now preparing to take the firm into its next chapter, Maciver said he was honoured to take on the role, with his sights set on building on Pinsent Masons’ global strengths as the legal profession continues to undergo significant change.
“It is an honour to be elected as senior partner. Our firm has globally recognised strength and depth across our key sectors, and a reputation for innovation and client service which we are rightly proud of,” Maciver said.
“Our industry has evolved significantly over recent years, and that pace of change will continue. We have made, and will continue to make, the investments in people and technology which enable our clients to rely on us when the stakes are high.”
Reflecting on his four years at the helm, Masraf highlighted the firm’s progress and the resilience of its people, while backing Maciver to build on that momentum by challenging convention and driving the firm’s next phase of growth.
“Leading the firm for the last four years has been a tremendous privilege. Not least because of what we have achieved, but because of the confidence and tenacity of our people to always push for better outcomes,” Masraf said.
“Among turbulent times, the firm has remained focused on its long-term strategy and has made strides towards achieving our vision. Congratulations to John. I know that he will continue to inspire the business to break conventions, think differently and embrace our originality.”
Maciver paid tribute to Masraf’s four years at the helm, crediting his leadership with leaving the firm well positioned for the future while recognising his broader 33-year contribution to the business.
“Andrew has built a firm that is optimised for the future and resilient to the external forces shaping our world,” Maciver said.
“I’d like to extend my warmest thanks for his leadership over the last four years and his tremendous contribution to our firm over 33 years. He is held in the highest regard across our business.”
Looking ahead, Maciver has signalled that his focus will be on strengthening client service across key markets, while leveraging the firm’s investments in people and technology to fuel its next phase of growth.
“Under my leadership, we will continue to focus on providing excellent client service in our key markets, leveraging our investments in technology and people to drive further growth, and always seeking to deliver innovative solutions,” Maciver said.
