Private capital has been accelerated within Ashurst Perkins Coie with the appointment of a senior funds practitioner.
Ben Plotnik will bring over 20 years of experience advising private equity, venture capital, and alternative asset sponsors and institutional investors across the Asia-Pacific region and North America.
He joins from Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer, where he had primary responsibility for its Australian private capital funds practice.
Ashurst Perkins Coie’s head of corporate (APAC), John Brewster, said the firm was “delighted” to welcome Plotnik to the corporate practice, “which has had integral roles on many of the recent large M&A and private capital transactions in Australia”.
“Ben is a highly experienced funds lawyer with longstanding relationships with various private equity and venture capital funds in this region,” Brewster said.
“He is one of the go-to lawyers for fund formation and co-investment structures in this market.
“As the Australian private capital market continues to grow, his arrival enables us to offer clients seamless integration between fund structuring and formation and M&A execution, while strengthening our connections with funds teams across the firm’s global network.”
Plotnik has focused on private capital fund work, having acted for both sponsors in their private-markets fundraising activities and institutional investors in their alternative-asset investments.
He also has a proven track record in fund formation, sponsor-led transactions, investor-side mandates, and structuring complex fund vehicles, managed accounts and co-investment platforms.
Plotnik said he was delighted to be joining “at a time of momentum” for the firm’s private capital practice.
“My practice has always been international in outlook, and following the firm’s recent transatlantic combination, its global network offers the ideal platform from which to advise clients across multiple jurisdictions.
