20 new silks named in NSW

NSW Bar Association president Dominic Toomey SC has announced the names of 20 barristers appointed as senior counsel.

In order of barristerial experience, the new silks in NSW are:

  • Sprio Tzouganatos (Maurice Byers Chambers)
  • Donald Mitchell (Sixth Floor Selborne/Wentworth Chambers)
  • Jack Hynes (Nine Selborne Chambers)
  • Dilan Mahendra (Quay Chambers)
  • Greg O’Mahoney (New Chambers)
  • Conor Bannan (12 Wentworth Selborne Chambers)
  • Jnana Gumbert (Jack Shand Chambers)
  • Caspar Conde (New Chambers)
  • Lisa-Claire Hutchinson (Forbes Chambers)
  • Tamara Lynette Phillips (Sixth Floor Selborne/Wentworth Chambers)
  • Zoe Hillman (Omnia Chambers)
  • Daniel Krochmalik (Third Floor St James’ Hall)

Of the 104 NSW barristers who applied for silk in 2026, 84 were men and 20 were women.

 
 

The percentage of men appointed was 18 per cent, compared to 25 per cent of women applicants.

There are now 396 barristers holding silk, made up of 83.33 per cent men and 16.67 per cent women.

Women make up 28.90 per cent of NSW barristers holding a practising certificate, compared with 71.10 per cent who are men.

Of the 396 silks currently practising in NSW, 66 are women and 330 are men.

In total, 9.15 per cent of female barristers hold silk, compared with 18.61 per cent of male barristers.

Of the 20 new silks appointed in 2026, NSW, including 15 men and five women.
