When did you join that firm? 

I commenced articles at Arthur Robinson & Hedderwicks in 2001. This was just before the merger with Allens in 2001.

When were you made a partner of that firm? 

I was made a partner of Allens in July 2011.

What practice group are you with? 

I am a Melbourne-based partner in the corporate practice group and co-head of the firm’s private equity practice. My main areas of focus are private equity and M&A.

What has been the most significant change to your practice area during your career? 

I think the most significant change over the past decade is the growth in interest in Australia from offshore investors. Australia is considered a safe place to invest and the natural exposure to growth in the Asian region is attractive to many foreign investors.

What has been a major career highlight for you?

My main career highlights thus far are becoming a partner at Allens and acting for the firm in its alliance arrangements with Linklaters.

What do you like about being a lawyer? 

I really enjoy that every day is different. I enjoy coming into work and helping clients achieve their goals — whether that is a business founder exiting their business, or an investor or corporate seeking to grow their business. I love the collegiality of the profession and the willingness of those more experienced to share their wisdom.

What do you find challenging? 

Time zones are challenging, particularly when you consider Australia is somewhere in the middle of Europe and the Americas. That said, the overwhelming majority of people are very understanding and accommodating. 

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? 

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, swimming, going to the gym and exploring the many great wineries around Victoria.
