Catriona McGregor, the group general counsel and company secretary at Domain, said that everyone has a role to play in making existing systems and processes better in the in-house space.

“Good ideas can come from anywhere, anyone, at any time,” Ms McGregor said.

“Lawyers at every level can drive innovation; it’s not just for the general counsel or head of legal to do,” she continued.

“By staying across the latest developments, in-house lawyers can think about whether a new approach can be applied to benefit their team and the business.”

Legal operations are a key part of the Domain business, according to Ms McGregor, especially since its been only a little over a year since the brand separated from Fairfax to become a standalone entity.

With Domain having “quickly established its corporate infrastructure” as a newly-listed ASX company, Ms McGregor will be presenting her personal general counsel journey, and how she established the legal function and built a team of high-performing lawyers to meet Domain’s business needs, as part of the Corporate Counsel Summit’s ‘The Rise of Legal Operations’ panel.

Calling the summit “a great opportunity to step away from the day-to-day workflow and think more strategically, hear what other people are doing, and to connect with peers”, Ms McGregor said she is most looking forward to the “fantastic” speaker lineup, and the networking.

“The summit is a great way to get a fresh take on the challenges and opportunities of today’s corporate counsel, and I love meeting with other lawyers from different industries and different sized teams and exchanging views and new ideas,” she explained.
