Macquarie appoints senior KWM partner new Group GC
Australian multinational independent investment bank and financial services company Macquarie Group has hired a new group general counsel and head of its legal and governance team.

Evie Bruce will assume the role in May of next year, following the planned retirement of Michael Herring, who has served in the role since 2009.

Ms Bruce joins from global law firm King & Wood Mallesons, where she has most recently served as its Australian managing partner for M&A and banking and finance.
She will join Macquarie in January 2022 and work alongside Mr Herring and his leadership team for an extended handover period.
Speaking about the appointment, Macquarie group managing director and CEO Shemara Wikramanayake said: “I’m delighted to welcome Evie to Macquarie, having had the pleasure of working closely together over many years.”
“Evie’s broad transactions experience across a range of relevant sectors, as well as her proven leadership and development of a large global group of lawyers at KWM, will be a significant asset to Macquarie in the years ahead. I would also like to thank Michael for the commitment and deep expertise he has demonstrated throughout a long and successful career with Macquarie,” she said.
Ms Bruce will be based in Sydney and shall also join Macquarie’s executive committee.
