The Melbourne-based general counsel for Intrepid Travel has been promoted to the new role of group GC and corporate governance, which will strengthen the company’s executive leadership capability.
Kate Cropper has joined the executive leadership team at Intrepid Travel, with her role as GC expanding to become group GC and corporate governance. In this new role, she will report to the company’s chief executive, James Thornton.
Cropper has served as GC at Intrepid Travel since late 2019. Prior to this, she was a corporate lawyer at Australia Post, and in London, she served as head of legal at Prestige Hospitality Limited, head of legal at Sports Travel & Hospitality, and senior legal counsel at Thomson Reuters.
Since joining the company, she has “played a significant role” in helping to guide the business through the pandemic and in its capital raise in 2021, Intrepid detailed, and has led legal support for major strategic initiatives, including acquisitions, international expansion, governance and risk management.
Thornton said that Cropper’s appointment reflects her “outstretched impact”, as well as Intrepid’s commitment to developing future leaders from within.
“Kate embodies our values, lives our mission, and is humble, hungry and smart. She’s consistently shown commercial know-how and been willing to challenge conventional thinking,” he said.
“Her expertise in legal and governance is exceptional, and her ability to think strategically will make us a better business.”

The appointment will, the company said, further strengthen its executive leadership capability, as it grows globally with the aim of achieving $1.3 billion annual revenue and 600,000 customers by 2030.
