John O'Callaghan has been appointed as a magistrate in Victoria.

O'Callaghan is a council member of the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) and has been a partner in small, medium and large firms in Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Supporting the appointment, the LIV's CEO, Michael Brett Young, said O'Callaghan would bring valuable experience to the role of magistrate.

"Mr O'Callaghan has over 25 years experience in the law and has wide experience in family law, commercial law and commercial litigation."
