Duncan Fletcher has left Mallesons Stephen Jaques to join Middletons' national workplace relations and safety group as partner.

Having spent more than a decade working in industrial, employment and occupational health and safety law, including with the Sydney and Perth offices of Freehills, Fletcher has advised organisations across industries including mining, energy and resources, transport, construction and financial services.

Head of the firm's workplace relations and safety group, Gerard Phillips said in a statement: "This is a continuation of our expansion into Perth and a response to client demand in the west."

Middletons' national managing partner Nick Nichola, noted that with an increased number of matters and clients now requiring legal services in Western Australia, the firm was pleased to build the Perth office with a partner who has advised some of Australia's top 100 companies including BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Commonwealth Bank and Qantas.
