Former Clayton Utz lawyer Kate Marshall has joined Middletons' technology and innovations group as a partner, bringing significant experience in a broad range of Australian and international transactions.

Marshall's practice is primarily concerned with negotiating and drafting agreements; intellectual property management, including copyright, trademark and patent advice work; and negotiating and drafting technology contracts including systems integration and outsourcing arrangements, plus litigation in relation to each of these areas.

"Kate offers clients a commercial focus with practical advice, having worked on significant transactions. She understands how to balance the desire for favourable business outcomes with the need to mitigate risks," said Middletons managing partner, Nick Nichola.

Marshall will reside in the corporate and commercial group headed by Chris Nikou, who said: "Kate understands each client's unique set of needs having advised companies in a range of sectors, including energy, defence, automotive, retail, professional services and education."

In joining the firm, Marshall said the level of commitment which Middletons has to the well-being and development of its people was ultimately what lured her to the firm.
