A WEEK LONG event to promote greater community understanding of the law will take place in Melbourne and regional Victoria this month. Organisers hope it will encourage the public to get to know the human side of lawyers, and explore the history of our legal system.

The legal community in Victoria will open its doors between 15 and 22 May for Law Week, with events of interest to all ages. “Whether you’re interested in the art and architecture of Melbourne’s grand legal precinct, want to know more about international humanitarian law, or simply have a question about your parking ticket, there’s a Law Week event designed for you,” organisers said.

Events will include legal careers expos, court tours, cemetery tours, and the launch of an illustrated map of the legal precinct. There will be an historical display on court dress, an interactive session on sentencing, and a mock VCAT trial. Sessions will also be held on topical legal issues, including body corporate law, social security, enduring powers of attorney and family law.
