A $69 million upgrade to the NSW Supreme Court building in Queens Square was announced by Premier Nathan Rees on Tuesday.

Rees said the upgrade, which will create 350 jobs over four years, would preserve the Supreme Court's status as the preferred forum for commercial litigation in Australia.

"The building needs to be upgraded to keep pace with modern dispensation of justice, including the shift toward electronic stored and presented evidence, and the increase in long trials involving multiple parties," he said.

All courtrooms will have new audio-visual technology, including television monitors, microphones and cameras, while the Registry, public counters, office areas and judicial chambers will be refurbished.

The work is expected to be completed in 2012.
